The Lamayaru Zanskar trek is in the region north of the Great Himalayan range, amongst jagged mountains. It is in a rugged and fascinating region that was once the independent kingdom of Zanskar. Here the villagers practise an ancient form of Tibetan Buddhism that is only practised in remote monasteries that are perchered on high rocky ridges overlooking isolated villages.
Our trek route takes us through small villages, dry desert land, high passes and farms irrigated by glacier fed rivers. On trek you have an opportunity to see the life style of the Zanskari people who lead an extremely isolated life. It is challenging trek and would suit those interested in trekking in more isolated and remote parts of the world. We begin our trek by flying from Delhi to Leh.
