Our flight out of Sydney takes us to Lima, the capital of Peru from where we fly to Cusco. We use Cusco 3310m as a base to acclimatise. While we get used to the altitude we visit Machu Piccu, Inca sites and the Urubamba (Sacred) valley and around Cusco.
From here we fly back to Lima, where our bus will be waiting for us for the journey to Huaraz. Huaraz is a major centre for treks and mountaineering in this part of the Andes. We have chosen a walk around the Cordillera Huayhuash ( pronouced "whey - wash"). The Cordillera Huayhuash is only about 30Km long but it contains the second highest peak in Peru, Yerapuja 6634m, The trek around the Cordillers Huayhuash takes you over high mountain passes just under 5000m. and some of the most spectacular scenery you can imagine.
